How it works
  1. Pick a puzzle type. Word search, criss-cross and crosswords draw on 32 themes or a list you paste; sudoku and mazes just need a difficulty.
  2. Download the interior PDF. Fonts are embedded; margins, gutter and bleed follow KDP's manuscript rules.
  3. Download the matching cover — spine measured from the page count of the book you just made.
  4. Upload both to KDP and publish.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type — titles, author name, word lists — ever leaves your computer.

From nothing to a finished book

No sign-up, no install, no waiting on a render queue. Word search, its cover, then sudoku, mazes, fill-ins and crosswords — the whole thing, start to finish.

Building a word search book and its cover, then switching to sudoku, mazes, criss-cross fill-ins and crosswords, with pages from each finished PDF

Watch it in real time on YouTube (60 seconds, no narration) — the same book, nothing sped up.

Why your manuscript won't come back rejected

Most puzzle generators hand you a grid. KDP rejects a file for the boring reasons — wrong margins, fonts that aren't embedded, too few pages. Puzzle Press handles those before you upload.

Gutter margins by page count

KDP widens the inside margin as a book gets thicker. Puzzle Press counts your pages first, picks the right gutter, and swaps it to the correct side on left- and right-hand pages.

Six trim sizes, bleed or not

6×9, 8.5×11, 8×10, 7×10, 5.5×8.5, 5×8. Turn on bleed and the page grows by exactly what KDP asks for, with the safe area pulled in to match.

Fonts embedded and subset

An un-embedded font is one of the most common rejections. Every PDF carries its own fonts, so the file prints the same everywhere.

A predictable shape

Title page, copyright page, your puzzles, a Solutions divider, the answers packed as tightly as the page allows, and ruled Notes pages at the back. Always the same shape, whatever the length — four Notes pages, or five where one more is needed to reach the even page count KDP requires.

A cover with the right spine

Spine width is your page count times the paper thickness — get it wrong and the whole wrap is rejected. Puzzle Press knows the page count because it made the interior, so the cover comes out at the exact size, barcode area left clear.

Why the puzzles hold up

Anyone can fill a grid. These are the mistakes that earn one-star reviews — the ones a reader notices and a reviewer names — and each is designed out rather than checked for afterwards.

Word search: every word appears exactly once

Crossing words can spell a second copy of another answer by accident. Layouts that do it are thrown away and rebuilt, so a solver never finds two of the same word.

Word search: no word hidden inside another

DEER sitting inside REINDEER makes a puzzle unsolvable-feeling. They never share a grid — though both still appear across the book.

Word search: filler letters are screened

Random fill occasionally spells something you would not want in a book for children or grandparents. Every grid is checked and refilled if it does.

Mazes: exactly one route

Mazes are built as spanning trees, so there are no loops and no unreachable corners — one way in, one way out, and exactly one path between them. The answer key is correct by construction rather than by checking.

Sudoku: exactly one answer

Each puzzle is dug out one symmetric pair of clues at a time, and a clue is only removed if the grid still solves exactly one way. A sudoku with two answers would make the solutions page at the back of your own book wrong.

Criss-cross: exactly one fill

A fill-in grid where two same-length words could swap is a puzzle with two answers. Every criss-cross here is solved by the generator before it is kept — if a second fill exists, a starter word is printed in, and if that is not enough the grid is thrown away.

Crosswords: clues you can actually solve

1,460 clues written by hand, definition-style, for every built-in word — no clue contains its answer, no trivia a general reader would not know, and the test suite checks both on every build. Your own lists take "word — clue" lines.

Every book: graded if you want

Published puzzle books usually work up from easy to hard rather than staying at one level. Pick Graded and the book does that — four bands, evenly split, with the level printed on each puzzle so a solver knows what they are in for.

Every book: no repeats

Each puzzle is generated from its own seed, so a 100-puzzle book is 100 different puzzles rather than a shuffle of the same twenty. In a word search, paste a list too short to keep that up and it tells you, instead of quietly repeating itself.

Questions people actually ask

I have never published on KDP. Where do I start?

There is a step-by-step guide on this site: choosing a puzzle type and a niche, trim size, how many puzzles, KDP's margin and font rules, the cover and spine, pricing, uploading, and the short list of mistakes that get manuscripts rejected. It is written for a first attempt and does not assume you will use this tool.

How is this different from Book Bolt or a free generator?

Subscription suites bill monthly and give you puzzle pages to assemble into a book yourself. The good free generators do the same thing without charging you — several will bulk-make fifty puzzles with answer keys, no account and no watermark — and then hand you a browser print-to-PDF and leave the layout to you: no title page, no page numbers, no even page count, and no cover. Puzzle Press makes the whole interior and the cover, checks every puzzle, and costs $19 once. There is an honest comparison of the four routes — including when the others are the better choice.

What kinds of puzzles can it make?

Word search, sudoku, mazes, criss-cross fill-ins and themed crosswords. Word search, criss-cross and crossword books draw from 32 built-in themes or a list you paste. Sudoku comes in easy, medium, hard and expert — 40, 32, 28 and 26 clues respectively, laid out with the 180-degree symmetry printed books use, and every puzzle is checked to have exactly one solution; there are also 6×6 and 4×4 grids for children's books, checked the same way. Mazes run 15×15 up to 39×39, each one a perfect maze: every cell reachable, no loops, exactly one route from start to finish. Criss-cross puzzles are crossword-shaped grids with the word list given instead of clues — 8 to 22 words, and every grid is solved by the generator to confirm it has exactly one fill. Crosswords are the same open themed grids with a plain-language clue for every answer — 1,460 written clues built in, or paste your own as "word — clue" lines. All five also offer Graded, which is how published puzzle books are usually built: easy at the front, hardest at the back, and the level printed on each puzzle.

What margins does KDP need for my book?

The outside, top and bottom need at least 0.25 inch (0.375 inch if you use bleed). The inside — the gutter — depends on thickness: 0.375 inch up to 150 pages, 0.5 inch to 300, 0.625 inch to 500, 0.75 inch to 700, and 0.875 inch beyond that. Puzzle Press works out your final page count and applies the right one automatically. If you are checking a book made elsewhere, the margin calculator gives the exact figures for any trim, page count and bleed setting, and the spine calculator does the cover.

Which trim size should I pick?

6×9 inches is the most common for puzzle books and the cheapest to print. 8.5×11 gives bigger grids and suits large-print books for older solvers. Both are available here, along with 8×10, 7×10, 5.5×8.5 and 5×8.

Do I need bleed?

Only if artwork runs off the edge of the page. A plain puzzle book does not — leave bleed off. Turning it on makes the PDF page slightly larger, which KDP expects for full-bleed interiors and flags as an error otherwise.

What if I pay and it is not what I expected?

Email support@bananafest-destiny.com within 30 days from the address you paid with and you get a refund, no questions asked. Before that, though: the free version makes the whole book — every puzzle, the solutions and the cover — so you can check the output on your own words, at your own trim size, before paying anything. The $19 removes the footer line and the PREVIEW mark and changes nothing else.

I paid already. How do I unlock on another computer?

Open the tool and choose Already paid? Unlock next to the price, then enter the same email you paid with. That is the whole licence — there is no account and no password, so it works on every machine you use, for as long as the payment exists. You never pay twice. If the email is refused, it is almost always a different address from the one on your Stripe receipt; email support@bananafest-destiny.com and we will unlock it by hand.

Can I sell the books I make?

Yes. Books you generate are yours — publish them, sell them, give them away. We claim no rights to the output and take no royalty on it.

Does it make the cover too?

Yes — a full wrap with back cover, spine and front on one PDF, sized from the page count of the interior it just made. You can generate the cover of your own book for free and look at it; it comes marked PREVIEW until you pay. Spine width is page count times paper thickness, which is why the paper setting matters. KDP only allows text on the spine from 79 pages up, so shorter books get a blank one. The barcode area on the back is left clear.

How many puzzles should a book have?

Most published puzzle books run 50 to 100 puzzles, whichever kind. KDP needs at least 24 pages; a 40-puzzle book with its solutions comfortably clears that. Every book ends with four ruled Notes pages — five when one more is needed to make the page count even — and they count towards it. Watch the royalty line as you add puzzles — every page costs about a penny to print, so a longer book is not automatically a better one.

Does anything I type get uploaded?

No. Puzzles and PDFs are built entirely in your browser. Your titles, author name and word lists are never sent to a server — the only thing that ever leaves your machine is the email you enter to unlock, which is checked against Stripe.

What if I lose the file?

Generate it again. Each book has a seed shown in the settings — put the same seed and settings back in and you get the identical book, every puzzle in the same order. You do not have to write the seed down: it is saved in the PDF's own properties (open the file and look at Document Properties → Subject), along with the type, count, difficulty and themes that made it. On a free book the same line is also printed small on the copyright page; a paid book keeps its pages clean.

Terms, in plain English

The books are yours

Anything you generate — puzzles, interiors, covers — belongs to you. Publish it, sell it, give it away, put your own name on it. Puzzle Press claims no copyright in the output and takes no royalty, ever.

What $19 buys

One payment, no subscription: every book you make, with no footer line and the cover without its PREVIEW mark. It is tied to the email you pay with. There is no account to lose and nothing expires.

On a new computer, or after clearing your browser? Open the tool and choose Already paid? Unlock, then enter the same email. It works on every device you use, for as long as the payment exists — you never pay twice.

What we store

Nothing you type. Puzzles and PDFs are built in your browser and never uploaded. Unlocking sends your email once so it can be checked against Stripe's record of payment; the result is kept in your browser's local storage.

If something goes wrong

Email support@bananafest-destiny.com. A real person reads it. Tell us the trim size, page count and what KDP said, and include the PDF if you can — that is usually enough to spot the problem straight away.

Refunds

Ask within 30 days and you get your money back, no questions and no forms — email support@bananafest-destiny.com from the address you paid with. You should not need to: the free version makes the entire book, so you can see exactly what you are buying before you buy it. If it did not do what this page said it would, that is our mistake to fix, not your $19 to lose.

What is not promised

Page geometry follows Amazon KDP's published specifications, and the exact numbers are shown on screen so you can check them against KDP's own cover calculator before you print. KDP can change its rules or reject a file for reasons outside this tool. Check your proof.
